Jones Pass – Backcountry Splitboarding

Raven and I decided to try something new this weekend, so we crammed in the jeep and headed to Jones Pass, near Empire, CO.

Thin on the lower peaks to the south.

Still plenty of snow in mid June, but it is melting very quickly.

Lots of recent slide activity, looks like it had been pretty hot yesterday.

It was warm the day before, and warm at night too, so the snowpack did not freeze. It was a good thing we came early, it was already soft at the top when we started down.

We did the ridge on the right, out of the bowl and the recent slide debris.

We cruised down 1,400 feet to pick up the jeep road again. As always, Raven ready to go back up again.

Enthusiasm for being outside!
